DePuy Synthes Attune® Knee Replacement Lawsuit
Please note: Davis, Saperstein & Salomon, P.C. Is No Longer Accepting DePuy Synthes Attune® Knee Replacement Cases.
When you underwent knee replacement surgery, you were prepared to endure the inconveniences and recovery time that come with any major surgery. You were committed to doing whatever it took to get rid of the pain preventing you from being active. You were eager to get your life back on track. What you did not or could not have planned for was dealing with complications from a faulty knee replacement.
Knee replacement lawsuits being filed against Depuy Synthes for the Attune®Knee medical device claim that it was defectively designed. Due to the faulty design, reports have shown that surgical glue used during replacement surgery fail to hold the device to the patient’s tibia or “shin bone.” As a result, the Attune® Knee has been known to come loose from the patient’s tibia, resulting in complications ranging from pain to infection and tissue damage.
If you have experienced painful complications from a DePuy Sythes Attune® Knee implant and had to undergo revision surgery, you may be entitled to compensation.

What is a DePuy Synthes Attune® Knee Replacement?
The DePuy Synthes Attune® Knee Implant is intended for patients with a severely painful or disabled joint requiring a total knee replacement. Most patients who undergo knee replacement surgery, also referred to as knee arthroplasty, are between the ages of 50 and 80. A total knee replacement involves removing damaged cartilage by resurfacing the end of the thigh bone and the top of the lower leg bone where the bones join together. The procedure is intended to provide patients with greater mobility and reduced pain caused by joint trauma or degenerative diseases such as osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.
How Long Should My Total Knee Replacement Last?
According to the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, most joint replacements should last patients at least 12 and up to 20 years. Due to defects reported with the Depuy Synthes Attune®Knee, failure is often reported to occur within two years of surgery.
What DePuy Attune® Knee Replacement Complications Have Been Reported?
In a 2017 study published in The Journal of Knee Surgery, physicians reported a high rate of early failure of the Attune® Knee Implant due to de-bonding. Specifically, reports revealed there to be a lack of adhesive on the baseplate of the device, which is attached to the top of the tibia bone. As a result of this defect, the knee replacement becomes unstable when any weight is put on the joint.
Patients frequently report the following complications:
- Persistent pain
- Joint instability
- Decreased range of motion
- Inflammation
- Swelling
- Infection
- Bone damage
- Tissue damage
In most instances, patients must undergo revision surgeries to remove the failed implant and replace it with a new artificial joint. Unfortunately, these follow-up surgeries are often more complicated than the initial surgery and require a lengthier recovery.
What Types of Compensation Are Sought in a Knee Replacement Lawsuit?
Lawsuits are currently being investigated and filed on behalf of patients who were harmed by defective Attune® Knee Replacement devices. The types of compensation that you may have a legal right to seek include:
- Present and future medical expenses
- Lost income and reduced future earning capacity
- Pain and suffering
- Emotional distress
- Loss of quality of life
- Loss of intimacy or “consortium” with loved ones
What is the First Step in Filing a DePuy Synthese Attune® Knee Replacement Lawsuit?
If you are experiencing ongoing pain or complications associated with your knee replacement, your first step is to get examined by your orthopedic surgeon to determine the cause of the problem. If possible, obtain the exact name of the product, year of design and serial number of the artificial joint device.
If the surgeon says that the knee replacement has failed prematurely or will need to be replaced, you should have an attorney review your medical records and determine whether you have a defective product claim. Medical device manufacturers are legally liable for defective products that cause injuries.
