A woman was leaving her apartment in Westwood, NJ, when she was caused to trip and fall down her front exterior stairs. The stairs, which upon inspection were deemed to be in disrepair, were separated from the foundation. The railing was also found to be unattached to the concrete of the steps. The injured client went to Hackensack UMC at Pascack Valley for treatment, where she was diagnosed with a complete tear of the ligament in the left ankle, peroneal tendinopathy, and an avulsion fracture of the lateral malleolus, which required surgery. the woman underwent arthroscopic surgery to her ankle with the removal of fibrous bands, repair of the anterior talofibular ligament, and repair and tightening of the calcaneofibular ligament. She has been left a permanent and visible scar on her ankle.
